Budget: National Living Wage to increase by 33 pence per hour

Buried under the headlines of the Budget, the Government has announced that the National Living Wage will increase from £7.50 to £7.83 per hour.

This 33 pence increase will apply from April 2018 and will only apply to workers aged 25 or over.  The rates of National Minimum Wage for younger workers are also likely to be increased, but the rates have not yet been announced.

The Conservatives say this will give the lowest paid a rise of about £600 a year but it is still below the real living wage of £8.75 and Labour’s promise to raise it to £10.”
